An urban live/work context

Lincoln Street Studio houses an architectural studio, a tenant space, and the owners’ personal residence in what was once a non-contributing warehouse in an historic district. For this renovation project, it was deemed important to enhance the streetscape with minimal intervention to the structure itself as both neighbors and the district’s design review board preferred the existing building’s fabric to the alternative of coatings and wholesale makeovers. It was also essential that the structure be given several points of entry, each with its own character, to identify the various individual uses within. Industrial materials were used to retain the structure’s character and to capitalize upon the superior spatial quality offered by this warehouse building type.
